Fat Hawks #001-003

After making songbirds I couldn’t resist the urge to add a little more feathery goodness to the Fat Animal Magnet lineup! (Although these little guys are slightly more pointy than their backyard cousins.)

Sadly this is one of the sculptures that didn’t come out as well when I made the mold, so the beaks are a little less intimidating that planned. But I’m starting to get better at mold making, so I’m looking forward to the resculpt (and recast) of this little guy.

(I also really want to make one with spread wings… *puts on the To-Do Someday list*)

Saturday Story Prompts

Want a pocket full of prompts? Click me!

1. I was the best of the best, I had to be to get this diplomatic posting, but even after years on-planet I still had trouble gauging their emotions.

2. When he turns forty tiny silver scales begin to creep out from his hairline, inching slowly outwards as the days pass and the curse soaks into his bones.

3. The dark and light sides of the planet are both too inhospitable to colonize, so they spread out along the circumference enwrapped in a perpetual dusk and dawn.

4. The magic pops and flashes in miniature fireworks as we get closer.

5. “I wish you could have seen her when she was new.” She ran a hand down the battered hull with a wistful smile just short of tears.

Live From the Workbench 03-24-2017

It’s been awhile since the last LFtW update! I’ve been in a ‘real’ picture-taking slump ever since I moved locations for the art desk and the weather has been great out recently (on and off) but too windy to do outdoor photo shoots.

So we’ll have to make do with cell phone camera pics for now (sorry!).

Between losing both a friend and a dog in the same week and then volunteering as staff for Katsucon… February was a rough haul. I got very little done even though it was an art challenge month! 🙁

But March was a bit better and I started to pick up steam again…

Fat Hedgehogs #001-003

What kitchen doesn’t need a little hedgehog??

This was the very first sculpted request animal (via my awesome Mom) and it gave me the confidence to open up the Fat Animal Magnets to my Facebook friends. After all, if I could sculpt passable hedgehog, anything was up for grabs!

…To be fair, quite a few folks thought he was a sheep, so I’m not 100% sure I pulled it off, but it was a popular choice come Christmas so I’m happy. 😀

I’m looking forward to doing a few more of these and seeing how they do out in the Etsy wilds. (Note to self: Someday I need to actually sculpt a sheep.)
