This little gal is the first horse painted from scratch for sale in the new year. Now I just need to get the rest of these guys polished off and onto the shelves as well! Continue reading

Ah, stencil horses, how I love thee! (I suppose calling this little guy and Appaloosa is pushing the definition a bit, but he is a fantasy horse after all.) Continue reading

Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Thoroughbred (G2)
Color: Blue No-spot Blanket Sabino Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was meant to be a leopard appaloosa when I started painting her, but ended up as a extended blanket no-spot with some sabino flavoring. Sort of a ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ pattern, even for it’s simplicity. Continue reading

Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This guy is… well, he’s sort of a leopard appaloosa, but you’d have to look at one a bit sideways. He’s got a little bit of white blanket scattered about, a whole lot of yellow spots, and a few gold highlights that really don’t show up well in the photos. Continue reading

Ah, nothing like Bablefish to pull a name out of a hat! Apfelblüte is German for Apple Blossom, since this little guy reminded me of Granny Smiths and the craziness of springtime in the orchards. Continue reading

Mold: Thoroughbred (G2)
Color: Green-bay Extended Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was one of my few repaints– she didn’t sell with her original teal and green coat (see last photo) and after a few relistings on eBay I decided to give her a makeover. Continue reading

Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Blue-green Snow-cap Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This was a custom order of Neverland Flyboy‘s color and pattern on the saddlebred mold. While I try not to do the same color and pattern on the same mold more than once (it seems like cheating since I was selling them to the highest bidder), I did a few customs where it was a similar color on a different mold. Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

I’m very fond of the scratching foal mold, as annoying as it was to try and clean up the seams. This little guy was one of the first appaloosa patterns I did on the mold, as you can tell by the out-of-focus photos, but he certainly wasn’t the last! Continue reading

This is one of the few times this color of purple has photographed well. I think that the older camera might actually have the advantage over the new one when it comes to the phthalocyanine colors. Continue reading

Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted in 200? and Sold 200?

His name is German for ‘December Stone’ because I was completely out of ideas on what to call a turquoise horse. Babelfish is a very addicting crutch… you can make just about anything sound nifty by turning it into German (or Portuguese!) Continue reading

Why I didn’t just call him Strawberry Glaze, I have no idea. Fragaria is the genus name for strawberries, so I’m assuming I was feeling overly literate when I named him. Continue reading

Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Not a whole lot to say on this one. This was a simple Add-a-Foal for Stonehenge Lilac (for a while I had a requirement that the foals be the same color as the ‘parent’). Same stencil brush technique as on the adult, nothing fancy about him/her– although you really can’t tell that from the rather lackluster photos. Continue reading

Not a lot to say here. This was an Add-a-Foal, but I can’t remember if it was sold with Neverland Flyboy or ROL Primavera. Hmm… Continue reading

Mold: Paso Fino (G2)
Color: Yellow-gold Leopard Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a pain to photograph. Even with the new camera you can’t really make out the fine white speckling and traceries that made her shine in person.

Because of that she took the longest to sell on eBay and I’m a little surprised she ended up selling at all. I figured I was going to have to take her to a show and sell her from a table so that folks could make an in-person assessment. Continue reading

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Scratching Foal (G2)
Color: Blue Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Home Herd

This little guy is one of my ‘Home Herd’ that I’m never planning on selling and thus when I unpacked everyone for the Great Body Box count, I got a chance to get new photos and get him safely onto a display shelf.

He’s actually one of my earlier paintjobs, done right after Devil May Cry as I recall, but he’s none the worse for it. I need to go back and fix the chip on his hoof, but otherwise he held up pretty well to the rough life he suffered in the Box ‘o Doom.

Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Standardbred/Pacer (G2)
Color: Blue Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 2003 and Sold Feb 2003

This handsome guy started out life with the intent of becoming a ‘real’ appaloosa. Thankfully the fantasy muse mugged the reality muse and he ended up black and blue instead of black-bay and white. (Although I do still want to do a black-bay appy at some point…) Continue reading

Mold: Quarter Horse (G2)
Color: Blue Blanket Appaloosa

Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy got one of those names I really wish I had saved for my own show string– and he was one of the horses I wish I’d kept as well! The color combination came out just the way I’d hoped it would in my head and appaloosa pattern was nice and crisp. Continue reading

Color: Green Bay Leopard Appaloosa
Mediums used so far: Liquitex Green Light Permanent (Coat), Liquitex Emerald Green (Coat), Liquitex Phthalocyanine Green (points)

This guy was started back last October, but is taking forever thanks to my brilliant idea to use two base colors neither of which goes on opaque. So there have been a lot of coat of green… and I’m only just now starting in on the points! (arg)

Dancing by Moonlight

Make: Breyer
Scale: Mini Whinnies
Mold: High Stepping Saddlebred Mare
Color: Silver Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

For those of you not familiar with Breyer Mini Whinnies, this little gal is only about an inch tall!

So far she is one of my favorite Mini Whinnies customs. The plastic is softer than the Stablemates and it’s been a bit of a learning curve. I did a pretty good job removing the seams and the ears carved better than I was expecting. Although you can till see some rough spots on the photos (which are several times life size!) in person she looked even better. Continue reading

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Arabian (G2)
Color: Green Bay Leopard Appaloosa
Gallery: Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted in 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy was a lot of fun to paint!

As I remember he was a follow-up horse to Blue Eyed Piper, since Blue’s appy pattern didn’t turn out as realistic as I would have like. The same technique on a fantasy horse looks lovely, and I was able to play around more with the layers of white and pastels once reality was out the window. (Besides, I was itching to break into the new silly colored chalk pastels!) Continue reading

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Standing Foal (G1)
Color: Blue Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy was a more recent paint job and one I did just for fun. I’m really rather fond of the old standing foal mold, although Breyer has since come out with several new Stablemate litte’uns.

From what I remember, I painted this guy as a test piece for the technique used on later appaloosas. I think this works a bit better with the added pastel shading I did on the adults (I’ll add the links to the other horses one I post them), but it looks nice as is on the smaller mold. Definitely a fun little pattern! Continue reading
