Mold: Thoroughbred (G2)
Color: Chestnut Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Realistic Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a blast to paint and I loved the way she turned out! Unfortunately the paint-job didn’t past muster for the person who bought her (One of the few times a buyer thought less of a horse than I did). Continue reading

Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy started out life as a portrait horse, but turned into a wonderful example of why I offer 100% refunds on works-in-progress and why I make sure my custom order customers get in-process pictures on a regular basis. Continue reading

Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

The one nice thing about the Add-a-Foals was I got very very good at turning out basic coat colors and patterns without sinking a lot of time into the model. When the horse is only costing someone $5, it’s a lot easier to let go of the perfectionism and play a little. Continue reading

Mold: Arabian (G2)
Color: Dun Splash Overo Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Appaloosa
Medium: Pastels and Acrylics
Status: Painted in 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy was going to be my first horse done in pastels, a nice dun splash overo… and them my dog sneezed.

So I’m not sure if such a thing as an overo appaloosa exists in nature, but it sure as heck exists in model horse-dom! Amusingly he fared rather well at the small home-show I took him too, so regardless of his reality he’s a nice bit of eye candy. Continue reading

Make: Breyer

Mold: Nursing Foal
Color: Bay Few Spot Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Realistic Appaloosa
Medium: Oils
Status: Painted 200? and Home Herd

This was technically the first horse I ever customized (if you don’t count the rocking horse I attempted to paint brown with varnish when I was five). She was a simple custom and still sports her Breyer logo, bad seams, and brown original finish coat underneath. Continue reading

Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little fellow is the portrait horse that I was most happy with in terms of reality = model. He was one of the last portrait horses I did and he took me nigh on forever to finish! (Yet another reason I stopped taking portrait orders.) Continue reading

This little guy is one of my keepers and is due for another trip under the brush to update some of the transitions on his black points and refine his appy pattern (and lack of spots). Continue reading

Color: Bay Leopard Appaloosa
Gallery: Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted in 2005 and Sold Jan 2005

Oddly enough, this model was inspired by a custom auto painting show on TV! After watching the gentleman (who’s name I have forgotten) paint layer after layer of color to get this amazing ‘true fire’ I decided to give it a try with appaloosas. Which made prefect sense at the time. *grin* Continue reading

Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

I honestly can’t say if this was meant to be a roan first and then turned into an appaloosa or if it started out as an appy and just looks roan-ish. Either way, it’s a fun color (if possibly not realistic) and I love the way the splatterpaint looks when it comes out right. Florentine Flip was a paint to create, but the technique was definitely a keeper. Continue reading
