Keno

Make: Breyer

Mold: Paso Fino (G2)
Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobaino
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy is a portrait of Jet’s Chief Keno owned by Sherry Foxworth of Rocking S Farm. He was one of the last portrait horses that I painted and the one I’m proudest of. He’s the best match so far from horse to model, although he wasn’t quite as complicated as Sierra. Continue reading

Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano

Okay, so per the paperwork the buyer’s name was Samuel and I have no idea what the horse’s name was. That’s what I get for loosing track of my notes! :P Continue reading

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Trotting Foal (G2)
Color: Bay Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy is quite the show-off! He’s got a rich bay base, complex tobiano pattern, and a Sculpy base that has been covered in sand and train grass. It’s models like Ghost that remind me I might possibly know what I’m doing… and there’s nothing like sharp looking foal to kick in the ego. Continue reading

Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal (guy?) was a custom ordered portrait horse… but that’s all the notes I have on her right now. Once I figure out who she is, I’ll come back and update the name and the description. Continue reading

Indigo Dancer

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Warmblood (G2)
Color: Dark Bay Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy’s name came from the fact that he started out life as a deep purple tobiano– you could still see a little bit of the tint left, once I went back in and modified the color, but only if you were looking for it. Continue reading

Make: Breyer

Mold: Scrambling Foal (G2)
Color: Bay Minimal Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

I did this same pose, first with Jumpin’ Jehosaphat and then Squishy. This little guy was the last custom order I did with this reculpt, but I’m thinking of giving it one more try… this time with the correct resculpting done. Continue reading

Moonlight Dancing

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal has been resculpted into a light draft cross with his face thickened, feathering added, and mane and tail replaced. I wish I’d done the tail a little thicker, but overall she turned out pretty well. Continue reading

Flashdance

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Morgan Mare (G1)
Color: Bay Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was one of my earlier customs than I ended up selling later on down the road. For a while I was building my own little show string, but quickly discovered that I had more fun hosting shows (Hampton Roads Classic) than I did participating in them. Continue reading

Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy has been resculpted into a part-Arabian with his face dished, neck straightened, mane and tail replaced, and boy bits added. As always, there is a lot I’d improve about him if I had another chance, but for where I was at the time he’s pretty darned good. Continue reading

Shadow Dancer

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Cantering Foal (G2)
Color: Dark Bay Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Not sure if you can tell from these pictures, but this little guy is actually a very dark bay, not black! I always found it amusing that my realistic foals tended to turn out superior to the realistic adults… one of the reasons I ended up swapping to micro minis on down the line. Continue reading

Down Time

Make: Breyer

Mold: Thoroughbred Mare (G1)
Color: Dark Gray Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom I bought off eBay in a body lot that I planned on ‘updating’ and reselling. I’m not sure who the original artist was, but I’m hoping I can find my notes and see if there was a signature on her anywhere. Continue reading

Mold: Shetland Mare
Color: Chestnut Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal came in a set with Splatterpaint and signals the point at which I gave up on oil painting. She’s a horse of a lot of firsts and I don’t think she came out too badly in retrospect. Continue reading

Alternative Polka

Mold: Shetland
Color: Blue (Black) Roan Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy is the only Traditional scale model horse that I have completed to date and the only Black Horse Ranch resin to boot! I have two other BHRs in the closet, both with missing legs… so it will be a while before he has company in either category. Continue reading

Grey Twilight

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Grey Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Etching and a tiny bit of Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

I had always wanted to try my hand at etching and this little gal was my first (and last) attempt. While it was an interesting challenge, it just wasn’t interesting enough to make up for the fact that it takes forever. This method of customizing is not for folks with short attention spans… Continue reading

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Scrambling Foal (G2)
Color: Bay Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was the first of the Scrambling Foal molds that I turned into a bucking bronco– but certainly not the last!

This mold absolutely refused to stand upright without some sort of base and I really got tired of customizing them because of it. I had some luck gluing Hell’s Little Angel to her base, but I wanted to see what else I could do with the mold. Continue reading

Angel's Kiss

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Thoroughbred (G2)
Color: Buckskin Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Painted/Sold: Painted and Sold February 2004

This little gal was painted in a pair with Pure Malarkey. The custom order was for a dappled smutty buckskin tobiano and I wasn’t sure how well I’d pull it off so I painted one one smutty and one plain.

I personally liked Malarkey more, but in the end Angel went home with the customer and Malarkey cantered off to eBay. Continue reading

Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Black chestnut is such a wonderfully odd color and it’s a lot of fun to paint! As you can tell by the fact I have several of them… (This little gal came after Nachtkatze, but before Night Life). Continue reading

This little gal’s name translates into ‘Wind of Summer’ from my rather mangled Portuguese. Nothing like ambushing an unsuspecting language and riffling through it’s pockets for names via Bablefish! Continue reading

Dance Away

Make: Breyer

Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Red Chestnut Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylic
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

As you can tell from the photos (and the bonus head scan) this little gal was one of my earlier customs.

She one of my first attempts at altering the Saddlebred mold into something a little more interesting. I got in a lot of this mold in from the dealer (I ordered in quantities and she’d send me whatever wasn’t selling well) and I was trying to find new things to do with them. Continue reading

Bailar Oscuro

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Paso Fino (G2)
Color: Dark Bay Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Yet another Bablefish horse, Bailar Oscuro means ‘Darkly Dancing’ in Spanish (more or less). A nice basic dark bay with an extensive tobiano pattern, this little gal was quite the shelf piece even stuck in amoung her fantasy kinfolk. Continue reading

Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Epoxy and Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom order for Nancy (last name lost to the mists of time… and my file cabinet) and one of the many draft-cross customs that I did from the Saddlebred G2 mold.

While I’m not as happy with the tobinao pattern on this one as I am with the some of the others, this one was done about the time I was getting the hang of sculpting hair that didn’t look horrible. Continue reading

Unnamed

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Standing Foal (G1)
Color: Black Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Epoxy and Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Yet another unnamed foal with no records to say where it was from or who it was for… I seem to be rather good at doing that. *sigh*

The resculpting was limited to adding feathering to the legs and adding a bit to the face to pull him out of the more generic ‘I am a foal’ look. Continue reading

Tiny Bubbles

This little gal was part of a body lot that I bought while I was in Iowa. She was damaged in the move from Iowa to Virginia, so I ended up adding the tobiano pattern to cover the damage before I resold her. Continue reading

I think this little gal was a custom ordered portrait horse that I think came in on the same order with Sierra. Someday I will find the notes and all these little mysteries will be cleared up… but for now I’ll just have to guess. Continue reading

I know that this little gal was a custom order and that she was one of my later customs, but that’s all I have on her right now. I’m pretty sure she was sold as a pair with Scoville’s Ghost, but I’m not sure to whom or when. Continue reading

Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Fuego Lento, loosely translated is Slow Fire and part of my ‘mutilate foreign languages’ kick of naming things.

This little gal was one of my favorite non-portrait customs that came out of this mold. (Interestingly I think I ended up doing more portrait horses on this mold than anything else.) The bay coloring had this lovely copper shimmer to it and the blending was nice and smooth. Continue reading

Arizona Wanderer

Mold: Andalusian (G2)
Color: Gray Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy was a custom order and one of the few gray horses that I have painted. His name comes from the fact that I was in the middle of painting him when I had an emergency trip to Arizona for a week. The customer was very understanding about the delay and I decided to name him in honor of the unexpected tangent. Continue reading
