Originally painted back in the early 2000′s this little gal has gone back under the brush to fix some rubs and bring her up to current standards! She might have been a snappy dresser before, but this time I think she’s really nailed the look… Continue reading

Okay, so per the paperwork the buyer’s name was Samuel and I have no idea what the horse’s name was. That’s what I get for loosing track of my notes! :P Continue reading

Color: Rose-chestnut
Gallery: Solid Color
Medium: Liquitex Venetian Rose, Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom order for Christa of RayovLight Creations and is painted in a faux-chestnut shading with flaxen mane and tail. She has the same color scheme as Kentucky Rose, but I think she wears it better. Continue reading

Color: Black
Gallery: Black
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Spock is a simple resculpt and I’m not sure if this guy was the first portrait horse I did or if it was Billy (another black lightbreed resculpt)– such are the joys of doing almost identical horses! Continue reading

Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom order of Captain Erroneous‘s color on the Saddlebred mold. She’s owned by RayovLight Creations and can be seen on their website along with a few other G2 SB’s that might look familiar. Continue reading

Color: Faux-Charcoal
Gallery: Other Color
Medium: Acrylics and Pastels
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom order along with Cirrus Uncinus. The color is supposed to be a faux-charcoal coloring (see reference pic), but it didn’t come out as well as I had hoped. Continue reading

Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Rose Gray (Bay going Gray)
Gallery: Dilutes
Medium: Acrylics, Prismacolor Pencils
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal is an example of why I offer full refunds on custom orders—I’m never quite sure what I can pull off and what’s outside of my range. In this case dapple gray was a step too far, but the person who ordered her kept her anyways. (Brave soul!) Continue reading

Pookas Pride

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Green-bay
Gallery: Solid Color
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a very simple green-bay with white and gold ribbons. Named for a Celtic shape shifter she follows the same Irish theme as most of my green fantasy customs do. (Unlike Kelpies, Pookas are content to just scare their riders.) Continue reading

Night Life

Make: Breyer
Scale: Stablemate
Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Black Chestnut
Gallery: Chestnut
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal is one of my many Hackney Pony resculpts from the saddlebred mold. It was one of my favorite customizing options (after the draft crosses) because it made such a visual jump from the original model. Continue reading

Subtle Magic

Color: Dark Bay
Gallery: Bay
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Magic was the result of another round of ‘every color on every mold’ and is the dark bay entry in said contest. It might not be the most creative way to expand my galleries, but it was good for getting over ‘painter’s block’ and using up bodies. Continue reading

Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal has been resculpted into a light draft cross with his face thickened, feathering added, and mane and tail replaced. I wish I’d done the tail a little thicker, but overall she turned out pretty well. Continue reading

This little guy has been resculpted into a part-Arabian with his face dished, neck straightened, mane and tail replaced, and boy bits added. As always, there is a lot I’d improve about him if I had another chance, but for where I was at the time he’s pretty darned good. Continue reading

This little guy was a portrait horse and may be the first portrait that I painted. Until I find my notes I can’t be sure, since the other contender, Spock, was also a resculpted black Saddlebred! Continue reading

Mold: Saddlebred (G2)
Color: Light Teal? (Colormatched to paint card)
Gallery: Solid Color
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was a custom order painted to match a color chip/card submitted buy the buyer. I think I still have the card somewhere and I’ll come back and update this when I find it. It was the first time I tried to color match something that wasn’t a photo and it was an interesting challenge! Continue reading

Color: Dark Purple-bay and Silver Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics, Liquitex Dioxazine Purple
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This dashing gal was modeled after a real horse, as you can see by the reference photos, but was not a custom order. I was trying to learn the tobiano patterns and wanted to work from life as opposed to imagination and this looked like a fun one to try. Continue reading

Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal was one of my first customs and was painted back when I only had acrylics in the primary colors. Both her and Chocolate Thunder have the honor of being painted using just red, yellow, and blue… Something I’m not sure if I could pull off if I tried again today! Continue reading

Color: Bay Sabino Roan (Red Roan)
Gallery: Dilutes
Medium: Acrylics, Prismacolor Pencils
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little gal is one of my earlier customs, as you can tell by the heavy use of prismacolor pencils in the roaning. I was primarily a 2D artist before starting customizing model horses, so I was more inclined towards a multimedia approach in the beginning.

Although I moved into straight acrylics, I’m gradually moving back into a similar methodology now… Continue reading

Painted/Status: February 2004 and Sold 200?

Thie little gal is based on a real pattern I found while doing Pedigree Assignment research. Sadly I don’t have the reference photo and I haven’t had any luck finding the horse again online. I’ll have to keep searching– it must be out there somewhere! Continue reading

Color: Quasi-stone in Blue, Black, and Silver
Medium: Acrylics, Liquitex Phthalocyanine Blue
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Blaustein means ‘Blue Stone’ in German and is one of my less creative names. This little gal was one of several models that I painted in a semi-faux-stone pattern (Philosophers Stone and Gold Digger were painted in a similar fashion). The color wasn’t meant to replicate any particular stone, but rather the painting methods normally used to do so. Continue reading

Color: Copper Roan Sabino
Gallery: Fantasy Sabino
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

I’m a little unsure if I meant her to be a sabino roan or a true roan with sabino on top, since she has the dark points of a true roan, but the bald face and sabino markings. (You have to squint to see them, but she does have belly spots as well as high whites on her hind legs.) Continue reading

Color: Grey Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Etching and a tiny bit of Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

I had always wanted to try my hand at etching and this little gal was my first (and last) attempt. While it was an interesting challenge, it just wasn’t interesting enough to make up for the fact that it takes forever. This method of customizing is not for folks with short attention spans… Continue reading

This handsome fellow was a custom order and my first attempt at finding a good balance point for turning this mold into an ornament. I ended up making a harness that I used to get the balance just right before I set the screw and it seems to have turned out rather well.

I’d love to know how well he actually worked on a tree! Continue reading

I was on a metallic horse kick for a while and this gal guy was a test to see if the copper would blend well enough with the white guesso to pull off a roan. I’d had a lot of fun making Florentine Flip, but the gold was just too opaque to work with as a spot color.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the copper since some paint mixtures produce really weird results: Yellow + Black = Green, Yellow + Green = Refuses to blend, etc. Continue reading

The best thing about fantasy horses is that anything goes!

The bad thing is that after two hundred some horses… the Muses get a little grumpy at times. This little gal sat on the shelf prepped and waiting to go for quite a while before I got the idea to turn her into a fake window hanger. Continue reading
