Status: Painted February 2012 and For Sale

Feuertänzer is German for Fire Dancer, which fits this little guy to a T. He’s a shaded red-orange faux-chestnut with orange, yellow, and red doodle pony markings. Since the markings use the same colors as his coat, the shadings are now a little hard to see. He’s definitely one of the models that looks better in person! Continue reading

Color: Orange-Red Dun
Gallery: Solid Colors
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy was my second attempt at the orange-red dun coloration that first appeared on Sonata Sunrise. Even though I’m not fond of orange, I really liked the way she turned out and wanted to give it another go. Continue reading

Mold: Standardbred/Pacer (G2)
Color: Purple-bay Silver-gold Tobiano
Gallery: Tobiano
Medium: Acrylics, Liquitex Dioxazine Purple
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Purple is the color of royalty and this little guy was another stab at a horse in heraldic colors, like Sanguine Courant. Royale didn’t turn out quite as well, since the gold shadings on the silver tobiano markings ended up looking a bit odd. Continue reading

Medium: Liquitex Phtalocyanine Green, Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Schatten-Grün is more or less German for ‘Green Shadow’ which is a pretty appropriate moniker for this little guy. I have vague memories of using every single shade of green that I had on hand, just because I could. Sometimes you just don’t fight the Muses. *solemn nod* Continue reading

Color: Dark Purple Bay
Gallery: Solid Colors
Medium: Liquitex Dioxazine Purple, Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

As I got towards the end of my customizing run I started focusing more on the solid colors. There’s something challenging about trying to make a ‘plain’ colored horse look good, versus just upping the chrome factor.

Flash is easy to come by, subtlety not-so-much. Continue reading

Color: Bay

Medium: Acrylics, Pastels
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy was part of a set of three (bay-chestnut-black) models that I painted in order to bulk up the Standardbred section of my gallery (Cajun Cooking and Whistling in the Dark were the other two horses). Continue reading

Color: Blue Blanket Appaloosa
Gallery: Fantasy Appaloosa
Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 2003 and Sold Feb 2003

This handsome guy started out life with the intent of becoming a ‘real’ appaloosa. Thankfully the fantasy muse mugged the reality muse and he ended up black and blue instead of black-bay and white. (Although I do still want to do a black-bay appy at some point…) Continue reading

Medium: Acrylics, Liquitex Phthalocyanine Blue
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

Angel is a nice dark blue-bay with just a touch of chrome. Solid colored fantasy horses might not make quite as bold a visual statement as the flashier cousins, but they still pack a nice punch on the shelf. Continue reading

There is something calming about painting a solid horse with no chrome to distract you from the details. It shifts the focus to the blending and the range of color you can get out of a coat, while still having it look realistic.

Color: Faux-Stone

Medium: Acrylics
Status: Painted 200? and Sold 200?

This little guy was an attempt at replicating a faux-stone finish, and while my results didn’t quite match my expectations, he looked pretty awesome once the final glossy sealer was dry. This is one of the techniques I’d like to try again in the future, this time with a little more patience and some finer brushes… Continue reading

This little fella was one of my ‘I need more pacers!’ paint jobs. (I had a bad habit of simply grabbing bodies and painting one of everything… so this is my ‘chestnut’ from that adventure). Continue reading
