Progress posts on the various custom models. Should be posted at least once a week.
Live From The Workbench!
The SparkleWulf is done and his debut post will be on Wednesday!
I had thought he was finished before this, but then I took him into work and noticed some flaws… and yes, my coworkers only think I am slightly silly for having a purple wolf. (They already put up with my multi-colored horse magnets, so I figure they’d become comfortably numb.)
The custom order it pretty darned near finished prepping, so I should be starting the body color this week. Just have to check on which photo was the closest to reality. *makes notes* Continue reading
Horses and wolves and tigers, oh my!
Well, to be truthful the only ones that are being worked on right now are the new portrait horse custom (Giselle) and the last touches of the purple Sparklewulf.
In order to time how long the traditional takes, I’m taking a before and after photo every time I sit down… prepping makes for an amusing animation of a horse slowly going white. Or at least it will as soon as I find a way to animate gifs.
Sparklewulf will be done this week and is not for sale. He’s a home herd wolf and was painted a) for fun and b) to see how hard it would be to paint wolves. I had fun playing with some false watercolor techniques, dry brushing, and other things that you can only do with fluffy coats.
I’m hoping to have the Traditional prepped and ready for paint by the end of this weekend. Going extra slow with it since I’m painting on the primer instead spray painting it, but I’ve had too many bad experiences with spray primer to risk it. *turtles along*
Looks like there were no nibbles on the Facebook discount sale, so I’ll move it to Blab next month if nothing else pops. I’m still doing the books, but I don’t need that much to break even for this year, so I’m not in a rush.
Live From the Workbench 04-26-13
I meant to have this posted this yesterday, but allergies an general omg-why-is-it-not-friday-yet kept be from being particularly productive.
But belated or not, it’s time to post some ponies!
Or, more accurately, a photo of the workbench and a sum-up of what’s going on. Now that the light table is put away I’m having problems figuring out the best arrangement that isn’t too dark. *pokes camera* Continue reading
And lo, there were slightly different horses!
You’ll notice that there are a few horses missing from last week’s lineup: the pearl doodle horse, the tiny blue foal, and the purple prancing foal. Those three will be showing back up on the blog in the next few days, so you won’t miss them for long.
The newcomers are from the 2005 body box. I’m trying to clean that out this year if possible. *crosses fingers* Continue reading

Okay, so technically this is the table in my living room and not the workbench… I get sidetracked easily. *solemn nod*
Painting while watching TV aside, you can see there’s a bunch of new faces in the piles! (As well as a few who I can’t seem to actually finish off). I still got folks who need to be photographed and uploaded, but that seems to be more or less par for the course. I’ll post them this week as well.
And yes, that’s totally a micro MLP who has ambled into the body box– I make no promises that she’ll be the last. *shifty eyes* Continue reading
Thanks to the attack of a killer migraine over the weekend I didn’t get anywhere near as much done as I hoped, so here’s the current line-up on the workbench (as of five minutes ago).
I’m going to sit down and work on them right after I upload this, so hopefully I’ll be able to finally check some of them off my to-do list!
Right now I’m running about two weeks behind on the show donation and several months behind on the custom mini whinnie. *sighs* Continue reading
I don’t know why I insist on thinking I am going to get anything done during the week. *sighs and pokes workbench*
Since roughly blocking out bench time wasn’t working, I figured setting up a more detailed schedule is a better bet. I’ll be adding these to the Google Calendar in just a bit (linked below)– but I figured not everyone was keeping an eye on that. Continue reading
Live From the Workbench 10-14-12
Been a long time since I posted an update! Some New Year’s Resolutions never go away I suppose… *resigned sigh*
Anywho, here’s the pile of the desk for today. I’ve gotten into the habit of working on the horses while playing in an online RPG that runs on Sundays, so I’m just getting everything into place for now.
Lots of horses on the table this time. Some of these guys you’ll recognize from older Workbench posts, but I’ve found things that need touching up and back to the bench they’ve come. Continue reading
I’ve had to abandon using any sort of spray sealer, at least until I can buy a dehumidifier (woo) so for now I’ve swapped to using acrylics and a brush-on sealer. If all goes well I’ll be able to grab a dehumidifier after I get back from the trip, but it looks like pastels are off the table until at least October.
Which isn’t as bad as it sounds– the glossy horses have always been done using a brush-on sealer (glossy always came out cloudy for me) and they look fine. It just means work goes a little slower, and the latest bout of flu’s aside, things are getting done. Continue reading
Break out the brushes and the pastels, it’s time to go adventuring into the workbench once again!
I had a bit of a setback, but things are finally back on track for both Works-in-Progress. As long as work plays nice, I’m hoping to have both done this weekend, but worst case I’m sure I can get them done over the next holiday adventure.
Click to embiggen both and I’ll try and get more photos up again tomorrow night (the paints still drying on today’s rounds). Continue reading
