Two Cats, One Stick

Two Cats, One Stick

To be fair, it’s a stick with arms… and a level 60 stick at that.

I seem to be making a level a week at this point, so I figured now is a good time to sit down and make sure my new Cat-Cat setup is working. Leveling only gets slower as things go on (am not looking forward to Outlands), better to hash it out now since I’ve gotten all the basic abilities.

The rotation I had hashed out on Dual-Spec, Dual-Loot isn’t working as well as I’d hoped, so it’ off to beat on the training dummy for a bit. (I’d beat on the mobs, but they hit back.)

I’ve got too many green quests in my queues and I’m looking to up the ante… but first I want to make sure that my newly spec’d kitties are up to the challenge. Continue reading

Swipe Bear, Swipe!

Dancin Bears

SWIPE IS BACK!

Thanks to the wonder that is Patch 4.1, I can finally put Swipe (Bear) back into my rotation!

Alas Swipe (Cat) and all it’s yummy double-damage is still stuck up out of my reach for the moment. I’m tempted to slip back into my main just to do some overpowered kitteh AoE. (purr)

But back to the bears!

There’s nothing more frustrating that trying to to tab-tank when you’re playing two toons. Building and maintaining threat to keep the mobs off Pattern was much harder than anticipated, even with the help of the faux-AoE Challenging Roar. Continue reading

I Hate Threat, Threat Hates Me

Aggro-Magnet-in-Training

Aggro-Magnet-in-Training

Recognition is a Bear Tank, or at least that’s what she’s meant to be… The only problem is I know almost nothing about tanking and even less about tanking with a bear.

Embarrassingly I have to admit that my use of her up to this point has mostly been to auto-attack and taunt everything that moves.

Not really an effective use of my time (or hers).

So now it’s time to break out the books, and the wiki, (and Big Bear Butt‘s archives) and start learning about what it is I’m trying to do! Continue reading

Looking Over Patch 4.1.0 (for Druid-Druid)

Patch Baby, Patch!

Patch Baby, Patch!

Ahh, the scent of a new Patch!

So lets see what changes lie in store for brave Pattern and Recognition… (and of course Ashella, my much neglected main). In theory the patch should hit sometimes soonish, but ‘soonish’ has all sorts of values with Blizz.

Forgive me for the old Patch picture, I’ll update it as soon as the new one drops!

Now onto the fun… Continue reading

Druid-Druid : Level 32

Scenic Mountain Views

Scenic Mountain Views

After the measly one new ability from Level 30, you’d think Level 32 would offer up something a little more substantial. But alas, although we have twice as many new abilities, they aren’t as useful as I would have hoped.

I suppose I shouldn’t complain too much, level 34 doesn’t have any new abilities at all… *sigh*

To be fair, the only ability that I really miss right now is Swipe and I get that in another three levels. If I put my nose/beak to the grindstone that’s within easy reach.

Well, I do miss Flight Form as well, but considering how much of a pain it’s been to learn how to swim without breaking follow… I’m not looking forward to it. Continue reading

Dual-Spec, Dual-Loot

So Feral We All

So Feral We All

Picking up a dual-spec for Pattern and Recognition has been in my Grand Plan for a while. While I think the Bear/Boomchicken strategy will serve me well for soloing dungeons, I’ve been planning on picking up a dual-Cat pair for ease of leveling (solo mobs don’t last more than a few seconds).

I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realize that the level for dual-spec had been dropped from 40 to 30. (doh!) So when I went to the trainer for level 33, I jumped on the option. Continue reading

Druid Shapechanging Macros

Kitties on the Prowl

Kitties on the Prowl

The best thing about druids is their ability to instantly change forms to match the situation. While I’m a bit more confined with my dual-boxing pair, taking full advantage of this isn’t something I’m willing to give up.

When it comes to dual-boxing druids, keeping everyone in the right form can be a bit crazy. I can’t depend on just the default buttons to keep everything in order– especially since Pattern works with both Resto and Balance spells. (The amazing vanishing Boomchicken is a frustrating thing!)

So this is run down on the different forms/stances and the best way to macro them into compliance… Continue reading

Mashing Different Buttons

Of Bears and Boomchickens

Of Bears and Boomchickens

I’ve been away from WoW for a while, real life reared it’s ugly head and took priority– which is the reality for all casual gamers, I suppose.

But now that things are a little more settled, I’ve had a chance to start moving some of my ideas from paper to the screen. The main one being swapping to using separate keybinds for each toon as opposed to linking two actions to one keypress.

I’ve been playing around with fighting styles for Pattern (Balance) and Recognition (Feral Tank), but I haven’t found good combination for linked spells/abilities.

One Patch Forward, Two Bears Back!

New UI Ideas

New UI Ideas

I swear, I have been trying to get a new post out for the old dual-boxing druid pair of Pattern and Recognition, but Blizz has been having a field day with Druids! Every time I think I have a post ready to go (I’ve redone them as Bear and BoomTree) they go back and muck about with the talents/skills again.

There is something just unsettling to see things reset every other login. *shudder*

That said, the relevant changes from Patch 4.0.6 aren’t as bad as could be feared. There are some nerfs to feral damage, but at the lower levels they aren’t going to be as obvious as they will on my main. It’s sort of rare for me too look forward to patches, but I can’t wait till some of this goes live!

Thus, the three things that have caused some hasty shuffling of spells and strats for me are:

Time for a little song and dance

What’s new pussycat? Woah, Woah – Tom Jones

Long time no post (and no WoW), but I’m finally getting back in the game– puns intended.

After spending some time fiddling around with my Druid pair (Pattern and Recognition), I’ve gotten them both into the low twenties without having to rely too heavily on the Random Dungeon feature. Which is a very very good thing considering I am still mastering the art of Not Flailing Madly(tm) when things get a bit chaotic. While I might be a bit too fond of graveyards, there’s no reason to share that love with three other innocent bystanders– err, heroes. Continue reading
